While the plant primarily resides on the cliffs, seeds occasionally disperse onto the sandy pebble substrate of the riverbed below. However, these individual specimens are frequently lost when seasonal floods wash them away.

Conservation Status and Threats

The Nuragica columbine is currently classified as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List and is included in the IUCN Top 50 Campaign for Mediterranean Island Plants. The population is extremely small; as of 2006, it was estimated that only 10 to 15 individuals remained in existence.

The primary threat to the species is habitat loss. While the decline appears to be driven by natural factors, the extreme inaccessibility of the Gorropu Canyon makes scientific research into these declines difficult. Interestingly, the plant is not threatened by grazing animals, as it possesses natural toxicity.
